The Charity News page gives details of the support given by The Lodge of St. Michael no. 7833 through its Benevolent Fund to various local and worldwide charities, organisations and good causes.

   

  RMTGB 2006

East Hull Urban Arts

Worshipful Master W. Bro. Ling Faang Yu, Charity Steward W. Bro. Malcolm Ladd and Lodge Information Officer Bro. John Wheeldon visited the East Hull Urban Arts group on Thursday 8th March and were treated to performances from Oliver, songs from the wartime, improvised sketches and parts of a new play currently in rehearsal. The group was set up by volunteers to provide an environment for children on the Ings Road Estate to learn dance, drama and singing. The club has gone from strength to strength with over 100 members and three classes per week. At the end of the evening W. Bro. Yu presented a cheque for £1000 to one of the organisers. The money will be used to purchase microphones and other electronic equipment.

 

The Godfrey Robinson Home

Based at North Ferriby the  Godfrey Robinson home for  younger disabled people received a cheque for £1000 towards the cost of a new minibus. The cheque was presented on 29th November 2007 to Amanda Short at the home by Worshipful Master Ling Faang Yu who was supported by Charity Steward W. Bro. Malcolm Ladd (right) and W. Bro. Stephen Prior.

 

The Camphill Community - Botton Village

The Camphill Community at Botton Village, Danby near Whitby sought the help of the Lodge of St. Michael for a second time and received  £1000 to help continue their good work in providing a therapeutic working community for people with learning disabilities.  For more information click on : - www.camphill.org.uk/botton.htm

 

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

At the September meeting (Founders Night) the Lodge of St. Michael no 7833 was honoured by the presence of  The Asst. Pro. Grand Master W. Bro John R. Trout who was presented with a cheque for £1000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance appeal by the Worshipful Master W. Bro. Ling Faang Yu. 

 

The Worshipful Master W. Bro. Ling Faang Yu presented three Cheques  on Tuesday 29th May at the Masonic Hall, Dagger Lane, Hull.

 

Naomi Smith (14) who is representing Great Britain at Table Tennis and the 100 metres at the World Transplant Games in Bangkok in August received a cheque for £345. Naomi had a Liver transplant at the age of 16 months. Naomi won Gold medals in both her events at the recent British Transplant Games as well as a Bronze in the ball throw. Naomi and her family needed to raise £8000 to enable them to travel to Thailand. Happily the target has now been reached. Best of luck Naomi.

Naomi had a very successful World Transplant Games winning Gold medals in the individual 100m (15.26 secs), the 100m relay (59.14 secs) and the ball throw (33.07m) as well as a silver in the Table Tennis singles. Well Done Naomi.

Mrs Christine Davies, Senior Organiser for Home Start (Hull), received a cheque for £500 on their behalf. Home Start  is a voluntary organisation that offers support to families with at least one child under five years of age. Home Start helps lonely or isolated parents, families with twins, multiple birth families,  families with disabilities or special needs, mums with postnatal depression and families who are new to the area.  www.home-start.org.uk

W. Bro. Jack Chapman received a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Cardiac Monitoring Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary.

At the Installation meeting on Thursday May 21st 2007 the Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Ling Faang Yu, presented a cheque for £300 on behalf of the Lodge of St. Michael no.7833 to W. Bro. Clive Wood, the representative of the R. W. Provincial Grand Master, for the Provincial Grand Charity.

Donations have also recently been made to the following organisations: -

 

1. Camphill Communities, Botton village, Danby near Whitby, North Yorkshire, which is a therapeutic community for adults with learning difficulties, received £1,000.

2. The Cardiac Support Unit at Castle Hill Hospital received a cheque for £500.

3. The Lodge of St. Michael no. 7833 Benevolent fund also donated £1,500 to Goodwin Training to provide clean water and irrigation for the Yumdum Village in The Gambia, Africa.

 

At the Christmas Lodge 2005 presentations were made to the following organisations : -

1. The Sproatley Church  Organ restoration fund received £1500 toward their target of £25,000 to refurbish their historic organ. The Organ dates from the late 18th century and is thought to be one of only two in the country that has black keys where the whites keys normally are and vice versa, the other example being in the Victoria & Albert museum.

2. Dove House Hospice received a cheque for £3,000 from Freemasons Grand Charity.

3. Yorkshire Cancer Research received £200 from the profits of last summers’ Lodge of St. Michael  garden party.
